Update: Police want info in bystander's shooting at gas station

Sun Herald

Police are seeking to identify a shooter in the case of a bystander who was struck by a bullet while standing outside a gas station Sunday.

At about 2:30 a.m. Sunday, police Sgt. Damon McDaniel said, a fight broke out in the parking lot of the Kangaroo at U.S. 49 and 28th Street.

A man who was not a part of the fight was struck in the arm by a bullet, McDaniel said, but the wound was not life-threatening.

Police learned of the shooting after a hospital reported a gunshot victim was seeking medical help. Hospitals are required to report gunshot wounds to police.

It’s unclear if more than one person had a gun or how many shots were fired, McDaniel said.

Those involved in the fight had left by the time officers went to the gas station, he said.

The shooting is under investigation as a case of aggravated assault.

Police want to hear from anyone with information, he said.
