Beach advisory lifted for Waveland; four others remain
WAVELAND -- The state Department of Environmental Quality lifted a water-contact advisory for a stretch of beach in Waveland on Tuesday. Water samples taken at Waveland Beach between Oak Boulevard and Favre Street show the area has attained acceptable bacteria levels.
Four other advisories across the Mississippi Gulf Coast remain in effect:
-- Buccaneer State Park Beach, stretching from 100 yards west of the sign to 100 yards east of the sign
-- Long Beach, from Oak Gardens Avenue to Girard Avenue
-- Biloxi West Central Beach, from Travia Street eastward to Iberville Drive
Pascagoula Beach West, from Oliver Street eastward to Westwood Street
Swimmers are reminded swimming is not recommended during or within 24 hours of a significant rainfall event.
