HATTIESBURG -- Officials have broken ground on a new solar energy farm.
Mississippi Power Co. and Silicon Ranch Corp. are teaming up to build the $100 million, 50-megawatt solar farm, which is expected to generate enough electricity to supply power to about 6,500 homes.
The ground-breaking was held Wednesday at Lake Terrace Convention Center.
Silicon Ranch President and CEO Matt Kisber said the farm, which will be on about 450 acres, is expected to create about 400 jobs during construction. It will have more than 600,000 solar panels that will produce more than 100 million kilowatt-hours annually.
