First liquor store in Stone County open for business
WIGGINS -- Rebecca White said it has been very busy since she opened Stone County's first liquor store, Twenty-One Liquor & Wine, April 18.
The shop at 1217 Central Avenue West in Wiggins allows residents to keep their money in their county, she said.
"They're saying that it's closer to home," she said of her customers. "They don't have to be on the road as long, and they're saving money."
White moved to McHenry in 2010 from Alaska, where she said the liquor laws are very lax.
"Liqour stores are on every corner there," she said.
She bought the liquor store's building in June as an investment, but did not know what she wanted to do with it.
When the new liquor laws passed in November, she decided to open up shop.
"There's a lot of people here that are (glad)," she said.
Twenty-One Liquor & Wine is open 10 a.m. to 10 p.m. Mondays to Saturdays.
