Cat killed in Gulfport house fire

GULFPORT -- A Thursday afternoon house fire in Gulfport claimed the life of a cat, Gulfport fire officials said.

Gulfport fire responded to a fire in a home on 49th Avenue around 5 p.m. on Thursday, Battalion Chief Chris Henderson said.

No one was home at the time of the fire, but a cat was found dead inside after the fire was extinguished

Henderson said the fire is under investigation.
