The Greenhouse on Porter sticks it to HB 1523 with 'Everyone Mississippi'
OCEAN SPRINGS -- Everyone is welcome at The Greenhouse on Porter in Ocean Springs, and owners Jessie Zenor and Kait Sukiennik want people to know where else they are welcome.
"We are selling stickers that say 'Everyone' on them," Zenor said. "They are little stickers than can be placed on the doors of businesses or in the windows to let people know that everyone is welcome in their places of business or they can be placed on cars if individuals want to show their support."
Zenor said the Everyone Mississippi campaign is a reaction to HB 1523, the "Religious Liberty Accommodation Act" that was signed into law Tuesday by Gov. Phil Bryant.
"We started getting this together when after the bill passed the Senate," she said. "We thought it was overwhelmingly crazy -- we wanted to do something to let people know where they are welcome without fear of being persecuted."
The stickers are available for $1. They can be ordered online or purchased at the shop beginning Friday. The stickers will ship for free if purchased online.
"We're not doing this to make money," Zenor said. "(The $1 is) just covering the printing and shipping cost. Any additional money will be donated to the South Mississippi Aids Task Force and the Human Rights Campaign."
She said she more business owners have said they will be selling the stickers, as well.
"This a group effort," Zenor said. "If other business want to sell them, we will get them to them."
