St. Patrick's Day parades roll through South Mississippi

Umbrellas and rain slickers were the fashion accessories du jour at Saturday's Hibernia Marching Society's St. Patrick's Day parade in Biloxi as a steady drizzle fell along the route.

John Carter served as grand marshal for the parade. Several floats and walkers, including the Ole Biloxi Marching Club, rolled along the soggy streets of Biloxi's downtown area.

And like any parade on the Coast, paraders threw beads and throws to the spectators, including green beads with shamrocks.

Along the parade route were sparse pockets of people, with the highest concentration of people in front of City Hall on Lameuse Street.

On Reynoir Street near the parade's end, a small crowd of about 30 people sought shelter under the canopy of the Saenger Theatre.

Danielle Toucedo of Gulfport and her three children braved the weather to watch the parade across the street from the Saenger in front of the Wells Fargo building.

She said they were there as a show of family solidarity.

"The kids wanted to come because their dad is in the parade," she said.

Her son Alex, 10, said he was not a fan of the weather.

"I hope we can see my dad and then leave," he said.

The Pass Christian Krewe of Blarney also braved the wet weather and rolled its parade Saturday through downtown Pass Christian.
