Prep Roundup: Biloxi edges Petal at Gulfport Classic
Chase Lott had two hits as Biloxi beat Petal 3-2 in the Gulfport Classic on Friday night. Trey Shaffer got the win for Biloxi.
Gulfport 15, Starkville 2: Travis McNett hit a grand slam, Alex Nelms got the win at the Gulfport Classic. Kevin Carter had two hits and two RBI. Nelms had three hits and two RBI. Dillon Brown had two hits and scored four runs.
Ocean Springs 1, East Central 0: The Greyhounds opened the season with a close win at Hurley. Starter Drew Windham struck out eight in the winning effort. Brad Wall drove in the game's only run on a double, scoring Evan Hannah. The Greyhounds will host the Hornets at noon Saturday.
St. Martin sweeps opening doubleheader: The Yellow Jackets defeated Moss Point 6-0 in their season opener and then beat Gautier 9-3. Chance Groue went 3-for-3 against the Tigers with an RBI and a double. He also earned the complete game win, striking out 15 while allowing two hits. Jacob Gilliland earned the complete game win against the Gators, striking out 13. Groue went 2-for-4 with a double. Brennen Study went 2-for-2 with two RBIs. Nick Vollmuth went 2-for-3 with two RBIs. The Yellow Jackets return to the diamond Tuesday when they face St. Stanislaus in Petal's tournament at 4:30 p.m.
Softball
West Harrison 5, Robertsdale 0: Stephanie Necaise allowed three hits, Rebecca Cuevas and Jada Walker each had three hits for the Lady Hurricanes at the Mississippi Gulf Coast Classic.
Biloxi 6 Loyd Star 3. Olivia Holley struck out 10 to get the win, also adding two hits and pair of RBI. Taylor White hit a two- run home run. Stephanie Scott solo home run.
Golf
St. Martin won the Dogwood Hills Classic girls golf tournament, beating D'Iberville by 17 shots, 168-185. OLA (186) was third, followed by Vancleave (190) and Gulfport (193) Callie Breland of OLA was the low medalist with a score of 76, Hannah Levi of D'Iberville was second.
