Award-winning pianist to perform at First United Methodist on Thursday

Pianist and recording artist John Nilsen of Portland, Ore., will perform a free concert at First United Methodist Church in downtown Gulfport at 7 p.m. Thursday.

The church is across from Gulfport City Hall on the corner of 15th Street and 24th Avenue. There is no charge for the concert, but a love offering will be accepted.

Nilsen has recorded 18 albums.

He records on his own label, Magic Wing, and has sold more than a million CDs worldwide. The hour-long concert will feature Nilsen's jazz, folk and classical-influenced compositions, his arrangements of traditional hymns and spirituals, and boogie-woogie and popular favorites.
