WIGGINS -- Stone County deputies are searching for a teenager who ran away from a state Department of Human Services facility Saturday afternoon.

Capt. Ray Boggs said Jason Shavers, 17, was at a Stone County DHS office waiting to be transferred to a different facility when "he just got up and left."

DHS staff contacted the Sheriff's Office, which dispatched deputies to search for him.

The teen was spotted about 1:30 p.m. a few miles southeast of Wiggins, but slipped away just as deputies arrived.

"He ran out into the woods," Boggs said. "We think he must have gotten a ride from one of his friends."

Boggs said the Sheriff's Office just wants to make sure the teen is safe.

"He probably just wanted to go home," Boggs said.

Shavers is described as white, about 6-foot-5 and 240 pounds. He was last seen wearing jeans and a gray short-sleeved shirt.

Anyone who knows where he is can contact Stone County central dispatch at (601) 928-2800.
