MLK Coastwide Celebration will honor civil rights leader

HARRISON COUNTY -- The annual Martin Luther King Jr. Coastwide Celebration will commemorate the late civil rights leader for the 30th year with a series of events Jan. 12-18, including the ever-popular marching parade and battle of the bands.

The lineup:

-- On Tuesday, the When Women Talk: Girls Just Want to Have Funds forum will begin at 6 p.m. at the Ohr-O'Keefe Museum of Art, Biloxi. Chair: Jocelyn Lane

-- On Jan. 15, the Gospel Extravaganza, featuring the MLK Coastwide Mass Choir, starts at 7 p.m. at the Grace Temple Baptist Church, 13344 Old Hwy. 49, Gulfport. Chair: La'Kiesha Cotten

-- On Jan. 16, the Man Power 2016: Breaking Generational Curses will run from 8 a.m. to noon at the Progressive Missionary Baptist Church, 3113 20th St., Gulfport. Chair: Rodney Pascley

-- On Jan. 17, Sunday Inspiration kicks off from 3 to 5:30 p.m. at the Grace Temple Baptist Church, 13344 Old Hwy 49, Gulfport. Chair: La'Kiesha Cotten

-- And Jan. 18, Martin Luther King Jr. Day, the Marching Parade begins at 11 a.m. The parade route will roll from the Frank Gruich Center in Biloxi and travel down Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Boulevard before arriving on the American Star Field at MGM Park. The Battle of the Bands will begin after the parade at MGM Park. Chair: Chris Fisher
