Smith played at Middle Tennessee as a redshirt freshman in 2014. He played in all 12 games for the Blue Raiders and had nine receptions for 73 yards.
Smith was dismissed at MTSU for an unspecified violation of team rules.
The 6-foot-2, 217-pound Smith is rated a two-star prospect by Scout.com and also held scholarship offers from Arkansas State, Troy and UAB.
Smith played high school football at Westside in Macon, Ga., where he was also a target of Western Kentucky and Colorado State.
Smith is the fourth junior college receiver to commit to USM for the class of 2016, joining Hinds CC's Marquez McNair, Troy Grant of Highland (Kan.) CC and East Mississippi's Allenzae Staggers.
