Edwin Rodriguez, Michael Seals will clash at Beau Rivage

Michael Seals has taken an unique approach toward the biggest boxing match of his professional boxing career.

Seals (19-0, 14 KOs) faces Edwin Rodriguez in a light heavyweight bout on Friday night at the Beau Rivage. Spike TV will televise the card, starting at 8 p.m. It's part of Spike TV's Premiere Boxing Champions series.

Seals, a Atlanta resident, understands what's at stake.

"I have a picture of Rodriguez on my wall that I look at everyday," Seals joked. "The fight is the only thing I can think about. This fight is my coming out party. It's a chance to show that I'm a contender and the best light heavyweight."

Rodriguez (27­-1, 18 KOs) is a Top 10 ranked fighter in two different organizations: sixth by the WBC and 10th by the IBF. Sergey Kovalev of Russia holds the WBA, IBF and WBO championships, Adonis Stevenson is the WBC champion.

"This is a huge opportunity for me to clearly cement myself as one of the best 175 ­pounders in all of boxing," Rodriguez said. "Michael Seals is coming to fight and I know what a win means for him and his career. This victory is a major piece of the puzzle I've created for my life. A win moves me a major step closer to challenging for a piece of the light heavyweight crown. Nothing and no one will get in my way of achieving that."

Lou DiBella, Rodriguez's promoter, believes the unbeaten Seals (19-0, 14 KOs) will bring out the best in his fighter. DiBella Entertainment is also promoting the card. Rodriguez is from Worcester, Mass. Seals is an Atlanta resident.

"Rodriguez is clearly one of the best 175­pounders in the world," DiBella said. "I am glad that he is getting a match­up of this caliber and an opportunity to showcase himself against a truly tough test. The winner of this bout should be in line for a shot against Adonis Stevenson, or any of the other champions in the light heavyweight division."
