Police: Teen girls fighting on school bus cause crash
GULFPORT -- Teenage girls fighting on a school bus Wednesday distracted the driver, causing the bus to have a slow-speed crash, police said.
No serious injuries were reported, but one student was taken by ambulance to a hospital at a parent's request, police Sgt. Damon McDaniel said.
The bus had just left North Gulfport 7th and 8th Grades.
It crashed about 3:40 p.m. as the driver was trying to turn west on Polk Street from Indiana Avenue, hitting the front of a car.
"None of the children even knew the bus had crashed," McDaniel said. "They just thought the bus had come to a stop."
"On-scene investigators determined the bus driver became distracted due to a fight occurring on the bus between some females," McDaniel said.
School administrators went to the scene of the crash.
"The school will be taking disciplinary action," McDaniel said.
