San Diego the wrong team to start slow against

Chargers D forced three INTs, two fumbles and two punts last weekend on its first eight defensive possessions vs. Kansas City.

Bad new Saints fans.

San Diego, this week's opponents, had little problem last weekend dominating pretty much the same Kansas City Chiefs that two weeks ago stole a 27-24 overtime win at the Superdome.

Here's what San Diego's defense did to Kansas City on its first eight offensive possessions:

  1. Interception
  2. Fumble
  3. Punt
  4. Punt
  5. Fumble
  6. Touchdown
  7. Interception
  8. Interception

Against San Diego, Matt Cassel completed 24 of 42 passes for 251 yards and two touchdowns. But Cassel also threw three interceptions.

Running back Jamaal Charles - yeah, the same Charles who left the Superdome on Sept. 23 with 238 rushing yards and 55 receiving yards - rushed for 92 yards on 17 carries against San Diego, including a long of 37. He also had one TD.

While Charles' longest runs against the Saints defense were 91 and 40 yards, against San Diego, it was 37 and 13.

For San Diego, Eric Weddle and Antoine Cason have two interceptions this season, and Donald Bulter returned his first interception for a 21-yard TD against Kansas City.

If the Saints start slow vs. San Diego, the Superdome could empty quick and early. The Chargers offense has the ability to score with the best of 'em in the NFL.
