The city is hosting its annual Fourth of July fireworks display to begin at 9 p.m. on the holiday.
Residents are urged to attend the annual 20-minute display, a presentation this year by Artisan Pyrotechnics of Wiggins. Music will accompany the display.
Pascagoula authorities said the fireworks display would be cancelled if oil gushing from the Deepwater Horizon reaches the barrier islands immediately south of the city, which is not anticipated.
Authorities are reminding residents that it is illegal to possess or use fireworks in the city limits, which includes Beach Park and the beach front.
Motorists traveling the area the night of the event are encouraged to use caution because many pedestrians are expected in the area. For more information, call Pascagoula Parks & Recreation at 938-2356.
