Some residents of Biloxi River Estates could find themselves in court if they refuse much longer to connect to Gulfport water and sewer.
It's a pollution and health problem, reliable sources say, with raw sewage at times in ditches near water wells.
I'm told the Mississippi Health Department and its legal representation from the Attorney General's Office will meet next week with Gulfport's legal staff to discuss potential lawsuits against the property owners. This is not an affluent waterfront community. Apparently, some residents prefer their private systems over the hookup costs and monthly bills associated with public utilities.
Legal action could be taken against about 165 properties.
