Sen. Roger Wicker is going to hold an insurance roundtable from 9 a.m. to noon Thursday on the Jeff Davis Campus of Mississippi Gulf Coast Community College.
The roundtable is open to the public. It will focus on the cost and availability of wind insurance: high and scarce, respectively.
Wicker has invited an economist from the Rand Corp.; representatives of Travelers insurance, who have pitched a plan to insure Coast residents in multiple states against wind damage; and U.S. Rep. Gene Taylor, who favors wind coverage throughin the National Flood Insurance Program.
Wicker spokesperson Courtney Sanders told me this morning that she'll be sending the Sun Herald a news release about the roundtable. I'll post it as soon as it's available.
