Emergency managers from Mississippi, Louisiana and Alabama heard today from one of the most well-known weather experts in the country, The Weather Channel's Steve Lyons. Lyons told the group that the media needs to put out better information about hurricanes so the public will have better knowledge. He said the Saffir/Simpson Scale only measures wind speed, but hurricanes and tropical storms cause damage that have nothing to do with wind speed, such as rainfall and storm surge. Stay tuned for further updates from the conference, which wraps up Friday.
