Ciara Reacts to Russell Wilson's NFL Retirement Announcement: ‘The Best'
Ciara is a proud wife after her husband, Russell Wilson, announced his retirement from the NFL.
"The best in the world!" Ciara, 40, wrote in the comments section of Wilson's official announcement, posted on Wednesday, June 3. "There's only one, 3!" (Wilson, 37, wore the No. 3 jersey throughout his career.)
The musician gushed, "Always so proud of you! It's a true blessing to go on this journey with you! My greatest inspiration! I love you so much! 🐐🫶🏽."
Ciara's message of support comes after Wilson confirmed he is retiring from professional football after serving 14 seasons as a quarterback for various franchises over 14 seasons. For the uninitiated, the athlete suited up for the Seattle Seahawks, the Denver Broncos, the Pittsburgh Steelers and the New York Giants.
"Thank You, Football. Love, #3," Wilson captioned a highlight reel of his time in the NFL and playing the sport as a kid.
The athlete - who won Super Bowl XLVIII with the Seattle Seahawks in 2014 - called the sport his "joy," his "peace" and his "safe place."
"You've also given me the greatest gift of all: family," Wilson said in the video, thanking his coaches, players and fans who cheered him on every step of the way.
Fellow athletes and celebrity fans were quick to send their well-wishes to Wilson on Wednesday, including Kansas City Chiefs' quarterback Patrick Mahomes.
"Congrats on a helluva career man! 💪🏽💪🏽," he wrote in the comments section.
Destiny's Child singer Kelly Rowland added, "LOVE YOU BRO!! And SO Proud of you!!"
DK Metcalf, who played with Wilson on the Seahawks, replied, "Congratulations family 💙."
