Is it possible to have too many fried chicken options in Mississippi? Probably not.
The folks at Zaxby’s restaraurant must agree. The fast-food franchise has expanded into Mississippi, with 15 locations, including restaurants in Hattiesburg, Jackson and Oxford. The next restaurant will open on U.S. 49 in Gulfport, north of Interstate 10 in front of the new Wal-Mart Neighborhood Market.
Zaxby’s specializes in fried chicken fingers, wings and dipping sauces, but also offers salads, sandwiches, fried dill-pickle slices and milkshakes — birthday cake, banana pudding and chocolate cookie milkshakes. Zaxby’s could be considered a fast-food restaurant, but is referred to on its website as “fast casual.”
Two childhood buddies started Zaxby’s, according to the restaurant’s website, because the fried chicken fingers and wings they found around Statesboro, Ga. were just not up to their standards.
Headquartered in Athens, Ga., the 700th Zaxby’s location opened a year ago and the chain operates in 16 states. Hattiesburg has a Zaxby’s, while Mobile has five Zaxby’s franchises. Zaxby’s also are located in Jackson, Starkville and Oxford.
The will be the first Zaxby’s on the Coast since a previous location closed south of I-10 on U.S. 49. Each franchise is independently owned and operated. No opening date has been announced.
Zaxby’s offers dine-in meals and has a drive-through.
