Popular Coast restaurant fails inspection, Italian eatery has host of violations

A popular Mississippi Coast seafood restaurant, a gas station kitchen and an Italian eatery received failing grades during the Mississippi Health Department’s most recent inspections of Coast restaurants and kitchens.

Since June 15, three Coast restaurants scored a C grade, which now must be posted in a prominent space to inform customers the inspector found critical health violations.

These three were cited:

Bozo’s Too, 1815 11th Street in Pascagoula, had a scheduled inspection on June 15.

It was cited for:

  • Not having food separated and protected

Corrected during a subsequent inspection on June 17 was:

  • Not having food contact surface cleaned and sanitized

This is the restaurant’s first C.

The kitchen at the Texaco Picayune, 6349 Highway 11 North in Picayune, was inspected for a permit renewal on June 15.

It was cited for:

  • Not having food contact surface cleaned and sanitized

Corrected during the visit were:

  • Lack of adequate hand-washing facilities supplied and accessible
  • Not having food In good condition, safe and unadulterated

This is the restaurant’s first C.

Tuscany Italian Restaurant, 1117 E Frontage Drive in Wiggins, had a corrective follow-up inspections on June 16 and June 17, after receiving a C grade on June 5.

On June 16, it was cited for:

  • Not having a person in charge present
  • Not having a certified manager
  • Not having food separated and protected
  • Not having sewage waste water properly disposed of
  • Not having their last inspection grade posted

Corrected during that visit were:

  • Improper eating, tasting, drinking or tobacco use
  • Not having food in good condition, safe and unadulterated
  • Lack of proper identification and storage of a toxic substance

On June 17, it was cited for the following issues that were corrected on site:

  • Not having a person in charge present
  • Not having a certified manager
  • Not having food separated and protected
  • Not having sewage waste water properly disposed of
  • Not having their last inspection grade posted

The June 5 and June 16 grades were the restaurant’s first Cs.

Most of the restaurants inspected since June 15 passed with no violations. So far in June, 196 restaurants scored an A with a clean inspection, 51 were graded B when violations were corrected while the inspector was on site and 10 had critical violations and scored a C.
