Heavy rains in South Mississippi over the weekend badly damaged the home where Field’s Crab Shack in Bay St. Louis served plates full of shrimp and other fresh seafood.
The restaurant that opened last fall on Court Street now is closed, said owner Jourdan Nicaud.
More than a foot of rain was measured in parts of Hancock County during the weekend, and he said water got through the roof membrane, into the lights and flooded parts of the restaurant.
Nicaud Restaurant Group was planning to keep the Crab Shack open through the summer, serving seafood and summer drinks with rooftop views of the bay. Then he and his brother, Field Nicaud, were considering switching to a new concept.
The damage changed those plans, and he said it could be the end of the year before the building is ready for business.
Meanwhile, staff members at the Crab Shack are moving to other restaurants owned by the Nicaud family, including Field’s Steak & Oyster House in Bay St. Louis, Field’s Italian in Pass Christian and Ocean Springs, Bacchus on the Beach in Pass Christian and Bacchus on the Bayou in Ocean Springs.
“If you have some favorite staff members you’ll miss, check out our other locations to see them in action there,” Nicaud said.
