We tried the spiciest pizza at Gulfport’s unique Indian spot. Here’s the scoop
Indian Cuisine and Curry Pizza, also known as I-10 Dhaba, opened in Gulfport in September and has become a local favorite around the intersection of Interstate 10 and Highway 49.
It’s landed a 4.5-star rating with nearly 200 reviews on Google, thus far, and has drawn people in with an Indian kitchen that blends culinary cuisines.
The menu offers many traditional Indian dishes like curry and biryani. What Indian Cuisine makes its twist is with naan tacos and pizza.
The tacos are simply naan bread folded into a taco holder and the filling is just whatever dish you want. It’s a genius idea. We enjoyed the butter chicken taco and I wish I had ordered three.
But I had bigger things on my mind. Of course, we’re trying the pizza. But Indian food is known for bringing the spice. Everything on the menu can be ordered at three different spice levels represented but red peppers on the menu.
The tandoori chicken masala pizza is described in the online menu as a spicy fusion pizza topped with smoky tandoori chicken pieces and rich masala sauce.
It was ordered at a three-pepper spicy level. It was served with a bottle of ranch. We don’t need the ranch. The taco served as the appetizer. Then it was time to tackle the pie.
The first slice was experimental. It about getting to know the flavors involved. The freshness of the vegetables and the way they blend with the well-seasoned chicken.
The heat began setting in between slices as a slow burn. The second slice is when the sniffles began. The toasted crust stood out at this juncture. A good pizza has a breading that tells its own story and isn’t just a mere vessel. This is a good pizza.
I was sweating on slice three. Turns out we do, in fact, need the ranch. This isn’t a cop out, though. Ranch was made for chicken and vegetables. It’s complimentary.
And it didn’t help. I was beginning to see new colors and sweating more than I would’ve been if I were on the beach.
The rest was saved for another daring day. A mango lassi, possibly the best smoothie drink ever created, cooled the senses.
Both the pizza and the taco were highly unique and will definitely get a double dip from yours truly. Just maybe with a slight adjustment on the level of spice involved.
Veggie pizzas are available, as well, along with a number of vegetarian options.
