Cat Island Coffeehouse and Pass Christian Books is open, adding another place to indulge in a pick-me-up or find a relaxing diversion in South Mississippi.
The combined restaurant and bookstore at 1110 Government St. in Ocean Springs opened Thursday and shares the location with Field’s Italian and Hotel Mojo.
Like the original Cat Island Coffeehouse in Pass Christian, this new location brews a variety of coffee and creates breakfast sandwiches served on an English muffin, croissant, buttermilk biscuit, Italian ciabatta or brioche bun. For more choices, two of the sandwiches are made with turkey or beef brisket for those who prefer those proteins to sausage, ham or bacon.
Also on the menu are bagels — plain, everything and blueberry — topped with butter and cream cheese or a dash of blackberry or other preserves.
On the long list of hot and cold beverages are drip coffee, cold brews, international iced coffees, classic espresso and signature lattes like honey comb and caramel Macchiato. Or sip a tea au lait, hibiscus ice tea or hot chocolate.
While the coffee and breakfast is being prepared, customers can browse the books displayed throughout the shop. John Grisham’s “Boys from Biloxi” is one to read while staying in South Mississippi, or go for books on local history, Robert St. John’s “Mississippi Mornings” and other regional cookbooks, Gulf Coast architecture and decor. Ken Murphy’s elegant coffee table photo capture the beauty of South Mississippi and children’s books also have Southern flair.
The shop is open Thursday through Monday from 8 a.m.-3 p.m., and is closed Tuesday and Wednesday.
