Flying Dolly’s ice cream and snoball shops are found in other parts of Mississippi, the New Orleans area and Mobile, and now one is on the way to the Mississippi Gulf Coast.

A shop will be opening at the beach in Bay St. Louis, near Pearl Hotel at the corner of Main Street and North Beach Boulevard. Another new franchise will open in Gluckstadt, north of Jackson.

“Both Gluckstadt and Bay St. Louis embody the warmth, energy and Southern hospitality that define Flying Dolly’s,” said company president Shane Mutter.

The Flying Dolly’s franchise is named for a dog who would hop into her family’s suitcase when her family packed for a trip.

The company started small, with a big idea: “that joy should be hand-scooped, fresh-baked, and topped with syrup.” They churn their own ice cream and create gourmet snowballs. Flying Dolly’s are best known for the honeycomb ice cream and hummingbird stuffed snowball.

Nachos sneak onto the menu that otherwise is sweet and colorful. A scoop of ice cream can be made more tasty with toppings like cherries and cookie dough pieces.

Shakes, malts, ice cream floats, sundaes, cookies and ice cream sandwiches add more choices to the creamy selections.

Dozens of varieties of snoballs will cool hot summer days in Bay St. Louis. They come in refreshing flavors like cucumber melon, rainbow and orchid vanilla, along with several sugar-free and natural Goya flavors.

Customers can go a little crazy, ordering one of their many stuffed snoballs. A Funky Monkey snowball with banana cream and chocolate, a Grasshopper with spearmint and chocolate or a Rise N’ Shine with coffee cream and coffee adding some kick.

The new shop will open this spring.
