Sixteen years after opening at one of the hottest locations in South Mississippi, a popular Mexican restaurant suddenly has closed.
A notice of permanent closing was posted in the window of El Saltillo Restaurant and Bar at Edgewater Village in Biloxi, at U.S. 90 and Eisenhower Drive. The shopping center is between Edgewater Mall to the east and Walmart directly to the west.
This location was the third in the chain and opened in early 2009. Brothers Martin and Jorge Flores opened their first El Saltillo in Ocean Springs in 1996 and a second at Cedar Lake in Biloxi before locating near the water with this third restaurant.
The other two remain open, along with locations in Long Beach, North Gulfport and Downtown Gulfport. An El Saltillo in Pascagoula closed around the beginning of this year.
Several other Mexican restaurants are in the same area of Biloxi and east Gulfport.
The restaurants feature tacos, enchiladas, fajitas, tamales and burritos. More seafood dishes were added at this Edgewater location, such as shrimp quesadillas, shrimp enchiladas and fried shrimp chimichanga.
“After years in the restaurant business, we have achieved a house Margarita that we are absolutely proud of that has become a Gulf Coast favorite,” the El Saltillo website says. “Our cheese dip also doesn’t come too far behind, becoming a staple of our restaurants.”
The 8,900-square-foot restaurant and bar space at Edgewater Village is available through listing agent Southeast Commercial.
