Bugs, rodents or animals and unsafe food among 10 violations at MS Coast kitchen

An inspector from the Mississippi Health Department wrote up a convenience store kitchen for 10 violations during a scheduled inspection on June 25.

Brothers Food Mart, 6600 28th St., is inside a gas station off Canal Road in Gulfport. It had a scheduled inspection June 25 and was cited for:

No person in charge present who demonstrates knowledge and performs duty

No certified manager

Insects, rodents or animals present

Food not in good condition, safe and unadulterated

Food not separated and protected

Toxic substances improperly identified, stored, used

Improper cold holding temperatures

Improper date marking and disposition

Inadequate hand washing facilities supplied and accessible

Last inspection report not posted

Corrected during the inspection was:

Food contact surface cleaned and sanitized

This is the fifth inspection since 2022 and the first C.

Other restaurants cited by the health department last week were:

La Patrona Taco Tequila & Beer, 820 Martin Luther King Jr. Blvd., Biloxi was inspected June 25 for a permit renewal It was cited for:

No person in charge present who demonstrates knowledge and performs duty

No certified manager

Food not separated and protected

Corrected during the inspection was: Adequate hand washing facilities supplied and accessible

Toxic substance properly identified, stored, used

This is the second time the restaurant was inspected. It scored an A in 2024.

Margaritaville Resort Biloxi at 195 Beach Blvd. had three kitchens that were all cited with one violation for inadequate hand washing facilities supplied and accessible. They include Doe’s Eat Place, Snack Shack and Captain Charlies.

They were inspected June 27. This is the first C at all the three places dating back to 2016.

Restaurants and kitchens in Mississippi receive the following health inspection grades:

A: if they pass the health department inspection

B: if all violations are corrected during the inspection

C: if the violations are critical.

Ten restaurants scored a C since June 1, while 284 passed with an A and 30 had a B grade.
