New family entertainment venue opens this summer in South MS. What’s a Hippie Fish?
More family fun is something Coast residents and visitors constantly ask for and Centennial Plaza Resort in Gulfport will offer a new option this summer.
Hippie Fish at Centennial Plaza is a family entertainment center with “golf, games and grub,” says Tessy Lambert, chief marketing officer for Lodging & Leisure Investments. The company owns the resort and its two hotels, a water park and lazy river ride, wedding chapel and other amenities at the beach.
Turn into the resort off U.S. 90 and the Hippie Fish attractions and restaurant will be in the building on the right of the dancing fountains.
The new amenities will open in early summer and will be open to the public. A hiring fair is planned the last week in May to get staffed.
“The golf course is complete,” Lambert said. It was built by professional course designers who came from Pennsylvania to carefully lay out the courses under the trees. They’re on the east side of the resort, behind the large building that will house the family arcade and restaurant.
“The theme is groovy, kind of in that hippie era,” she said. “It’s very colorful and fun,” blending a little nostalgia with modern entertainment and South Mississippi’s beach vibe.
Play around
Coast residents still talk about the arcade that once was at Boomtown Casino Biloxi.
In addition to the two 18-hole putting courses, Hippie Fish will bring a 130-game arcade along with a full-service restaurant and bar, also named Hippie Fish.
It will be open for lunch and dinner in the same building as the arcade, with seating that overlooks the action on the golf courses.
Family favorites on the menu
The menu is ready and Lambert said, “We’re going to have lots of favorites,” — sandwiches, wraps, flatbreads, Hippie seafood nachos, fried or blackened grouper and over the top burgers.
The dessert menu leans nostalgic, where parents can introduce their kids to an ice cream float, turtle molten bundt cake and apple pie, like they enjoyed as kids.
A hiring event is planned from 8 a.m.-3 p.m. Tuesday and Wednesday, May 27 and 28 at at The Clubhouse at Centennial Plaza for those who want to be part of the new restaurant and work as servers, bartenders and cooks.
