Sun Herald will host live event for subscribers with Biloxi pastry chef
The Sun Herald will host a live event next week in Biloxi where its print and digital-only subscribers can meet a Coast pastry chef, hear his story and sample some of his food.
The event is free and will be at 10 a.m. on Wednesday, May 21, at Zoe’s Bakery & Coffee Shop, 2572 Pass Road in Biloxi. There is capacity for up to 12 subscribers to attend, but preregistration is required. You can do so here.
At the event, veteran Sun Herald reporter Mary Perez, who covers the food scene in South Mississippi, will interview Chef Shane Gorringe, a native of England, about how he came to open a bakery on the Gulf Coast.
Gorringe apprenticed at Sweet Vienna Pâtisserie, a renowned Austrian pastry shop south of London, and has worked at luxury hotels in Germany, Amsterdam and Venezuela. He spent a few years as the executive pastry chef at the Windsor Court Hotel in New Orleans before opening a bakery in Covington, Louisiana, and later Biloxi.
Executive Editor Blake Kaplan said the Sun Herald has made a particular effort in 2025 to expand its coverage of the region’s food scene, and providing opportunities for readers to meet chefs is part of that effort.
“We want to provide our subscribers as much value as we can,” he said. “So we are expanding into fun, live events.”
Gorringe will have an assortment of pastries and cakes for subscribers to sample after the short program.
The Sun Herald is planning more meet-and-greets with Coast chefs later in the summer.
