Coast eatery racks up 8 violations. Another cited for bugs, rodents or animals
Health inspectors found eight violations at one kitchen in South Mississippi over the last week and found evidence of bugs, rodents or animals present at two others.
These five restaurants failed their inspection by the Mississippi Department of Health between April 15-21:
GoodBros Seafood, 3831 Main St., Moss Point, had a scheduled inspection April 21 and eight violations were found for unclean conditions and unsafe food.
It was cited for:
▪ No person in charge present who demonstrates knowledge and performs duty
▪ No certified manager
▪ Hands not clean and properly washed
▪ Food not in good condition, safe and unadulterated
▪ Food not separated and protected
▪ Food contact surface not cleaned and sanitized
▪ Improper hot holding temperatures
▪ Toxic substance not properly identified, stored and used
The only prior inspection was an A in October 2024.
Cousins Food Mart, 24281 Mississippi 53, Saucier, had a follow-up inspection on April 21 after failing its inspection on April 10. It was cited for five violations:
▪ No person in charge present who demonstrates knowledge and performs duty
▪ No certified manager, a repeat violation
▪ Insects, rodents or animals present, a repeat violation
▪ Food contact surface not cleaned and sanitized, a repeat violation
▪ Last inspection grade not posted, a repeat violation
This follow-up inspection came after a C grade on April 10, when the kitchen had insects, rodents or animals present, along with unclean food surface and the last inspection grade not posted. Eleven days later, those violations still weren’t corrected.
Kien Giang Vietnamese Restaurant, 10598 D’Iberville Blvd., D’Iberville, was inspected April 15 following a complaint.
It was cited for:
▪ Insects, rodents or animals present
This is the fourth C dating back to 2018. The prior C was in 2023.
El Saltillo, 920 Ceder Lake Road, Biloxi, had a scheduled inspection April 17. It was cited for:
▪ Plumbing not installed with proper backflow devices.
Corrected during the inspection were:
▪ Food separated and protected
▪ Proper cold holding temperatures
▪ Hot and cold water available with adequate pressure
This is the third C dating back to 2013. The prior C was in 2019
Dixie Diner Saucier, 23430 Saucier Lizana Road, Saucier, had a scheduled inspection April 21. It was cited for:
▪ Hands not clean and properly washed
▪ Adequate hand washing facilities not supplied and accessible
This was the first C. The only prior inspection reported was an A in October 2024.
Restaurants and kitchens in Mississippi receive the following health inspection grades:
▪ A: if they pass the health department inspection
▪ B: if all violations are corrected during the inspection
▪ C: if the violations are critical.
Most restaurants in South Mississippi pass without any violations. Since April 15, the health department gave 93 As to restaurants in South Mississippi and 11 Bs.
