You can’t really eat 100 things. Here’s what you need to get at the new Biloxi Bay Buffet
The Biloxi Bay Buffet is making its long-awaited return at Boomtown Casino.
The all-you-can-eatery closed due to the COVID-19 pandemic in 2020 and stayed closed, much to the chagrin of crab leg enthusiasts. The soft opening was held Thursday, allowing select guests to try the 100-plus entrees in the renovated space overlooking Biloxi Bay.
The buffet officially opened to all on Friday. Luckily for you, we snuck in ahead of time and identified a few of the goods for you to look for.
What’s good?
Buffets are overwhelming. There were three plates on our table that exemplified that. One was stacked with crawfish, steak and potatoes and accompanied by a bucket of crab legs.
Another was designated for Italian and the third had a little bit of everything.
But that’s the point. It’ll be hard not to find something you like.
There’s a trade off to that, however. Buffet-style is Jack of All Trades, Master of None. Will you be blown away? Probably not. Will you leave full? Probably yes.
We gave as much as we could a try so we could pass along our recommendations.
Crab legs
Shocker. The casino once known for its endless supply of crab legs is back with an endless supply of crab legs.
Also unsurprisingly, it is the top dish here. It’s also the one dish you can count on being available.
They’re not overcooked and easy to break. They come with butter and Cajun butter. I absolutely recommend the latter.
Near the crab legs are crawfish and shrimp. Prepare to have messy hands.
Italian
There’s a small Italian corner in most casino buffets. They all feature cold pizza and so does this one.
But on this day there was chicken Marsala and shrimp scampi. I combined them into one dish and it was fantastic.
The Marsala came with mushrooms and sauce and the scampi added noodles and shrimp to the meal.
Buffets offer a chance to be creative and you shouldn’t waste the opportunity.
Dessert
I don’t really do dessert. If you have room for it, you didn’t have enough dinner.
But then I saw it. You know those Little Debbie swirl cakes? My local Froogle’s has these jumbo sized versions that I live off of.
And so does the buffet. There was no escape for the front-most slice.
The Swiss roll cake was phenomenally well done. It’s basically a chocolate cake slice with swirling layers of cream within.
The cake was moist and the cream diabolically delicious. Forget what I wrote about the crab legs. This is the best thing here.
Honorable mentions: Orange chicken, au gratin potatoes, Southern fixins.
Good job, orange chicken and au gratin. Also, the entire Southern section is sure to be the most popular corner in the building.
Address: 676 Bayview Avenue, follow the sea creature squares on the floor once inside.
