Sewage problem, presence of bugs, rodents or animals among South MS inspection findings
Most restaurants in South Mississippi scored an A on their health inspections in March, though three kitchens were cited for critical violations.
Coastline Caribbean Restaurant at 3205 Hewes Ave., Gulfport, was inspected March 12 for a corrective follow-up. An inspection on Feb. 24 showed an issue with food contact surface being clean and sanitized, which was corrected during the inspection.
When an inspector returned in March, the restaurant was cited for:
▪ Food contact surface not cleaned and sanitized
Corrected during the inspection was:
▪ Insects, rodents or animals present. The health department doesn’t specify which violation was found.
This is the fourth C dating back to 2013 and the second since 2022.
Burger King at 699 U.S. 90 in Bay St. Louis was inspected March 10 for a permit renewal. In 2023, the inspection for permit renewal was done about a month later on April 23.
It was cited for:

▪ No person in charge present who demonstrates knowledge and performs duty
▪ No certified manager
▪ Food not separated and protected

Restaurants and kitchens in Mississippi are rated “A” if they pass the health department inspection, “B” if all violations are corrected during the inspection and “C” if the violations are critical.
The health inspection grade must be displayed in all restaurants, in kitchens such as school cafeterias, day care centers, and cafes and bars where food is sold.
Since March 1, Mississippi Health Department reports 146 restaurants and kitchens in South Mississippi passed their inspection with an A and 25 with a B after the violations were corrected during the inspection of before a repeat inspection.
