After more than a year, opening day nears for first P.S. Taco on MS Coast. Here’s more

Those who have waited a year for the first P.S. Taco to open in Mississippi won’t have to wait much longer.

After lengthy construction delays since the announcement the restaurant is coming to The Crossroads, P.S. Taco will open soon at 15258 Crossroads Parkway in Gulfport.

“We’re putting on the finishing touches and getting ready to serve up fresh tacos, handcrafted cocktails and good vibes,” the company posted on Facebook.

This restaurant promises to be different from other taco places in South Mississippi. The concept came from “a decade of globetrotting to taste tacos from Mexico, Spain, Southern California, Texas, and of course, the Gulf Coast,” according to the company.

Paul Smith, Russell Perkins and Tiffany Perkins founded P.S. Taco Company after they spent nearly 10 years sampling tacos in Mexico, Spain, Southern California, Texas and the Gulf Coast. They have six other restaurants in Alabama — in the Mobile area, Foley, Dothan and Montgomery — and in Orlando, Florida.

Everything on the P.S. Taco food and drink menu is priced under $15, and many of the tacos and drinks are under $10.

Tacos are served in a corn, flour or hard-shell tortilla, or a lettuce wrap. Any taco can also be turned into a macho burrito.

The restaurant will have traditional tacos filled with meat and fish, or with a twist, like their fried fish taco made with coconut panko crusted Red Snapper, sweet chili, spicy mayo, house slaw, pickled red onions, pineapple mango salsa and all topped with cilantro lime aioli.

Other creative tacos are a buffalo chicken taco and Backwoods Hawaiian Taco made with pork belly, pineapple barbecue sauce and jalapenos. Their vegetarian option starts with grilled fresh sweet corn.

They make their own fried chips topped with house salsa, queso or guacamole. Layers of flavors are delivered in their taco fries, nachos and taco salad with toppings like pickled onions, mango salsa, diced pineapple or avocado.

To cool the heat of the tacos is a big drink menu, some served in a souvenir glass.

For those who can’t resist, churros or cheesecake are for dessert.

P.S. Taco restaurants generally are open daily from 11 a.m. to 9 p.m. and until 10 p.m. on Friday and Saturday.
