Very few places represent that better than the Mississippi Coast, where local cuisine mingles with tastes from around the world.
But for many with dietary restrictions, navigating that world can be tricky and oftentimes unsafe. For those who are gluten-free for health reasons, it’s imperative to know what is and isn’t safe to eat.
The Coast is home to many restaurants that aware of that and make necessary steps to help customers enjoy their meal without concerns about accidental contamination.
Here’s a list of some of the best restaurants for gluten-free meals on the Coast. This is not an exhaustive list. If you have a favorite not found here, let us know.
Blue Dog Bistro
Blue Dog Bistro can’t be beaten for anybody who wants a good meal without stressing about cross-contamination.
The brunch spot with locations in Gulfport and Ocean Springs offers a variety of both gluten-free and vegan options that are clearly marked on their menu to cater to diverse dietary needs. The kitchen is equipped with a dedicated fryer to ensure there is no cross-contamination which provides for a safe dining experience.
For gluten-free options, there’s the roasted tomato caprese flatbread, made with house-made cauliflower flatbread, burrata cheese, and herb-roasted tomatoes. Vegan diners can enjoy the good dog breakfast, which includes a vegan egg, vegan sausage patty, herb-roasted tomatoes, and breakfast potatoes.

Orchid Indian
Gulfport’s top Indian restaurant is one of the best lunch and dinner restaurants on the Coast for those who need to be conscious of allergies.
The menu is carefully and plainly labeled to allow guests to quickly spot both gluten-free and vegan offerings. Orchid gives anyone with dietary restrictions access to the spicy and diverse world of Indian cuisine.
Vegan options include an authentic vegetable curry and mushroom masala. Many of the meat entrees are gluten free, as are the biryani dishes.

Half Shell Oyster House
Whether it’s a date night, an after-work gathering or brunch with friends, Half Shell ensures it can cater to gluten free guests.
Half Shell has a brunch, lunch and dinner menu and each features clearly labeled gluten free items. More than that, it also labels items that can be specially made to be gluten free.
That includes their signature charbroiled oysters and Cajun boiled Argentinian reds. The farm raised catfish is available grilled and many toppers and sides like the smoked Yellowfin tuna dip and Cajun boiled mashed potatoes are made gluten free.
The restaurant has locations in both Gulfport and Biloxi.

The Lady May
One of the most popular restaurants in Ocean Springs has a strong following thanks to great food, good vibes and an all-welcoming menu that caters to gluten restrictions.
Many of the items are marked with alternative preparation to allow for a gluten free version. This includes all of its flatbreads, burgers and kids menu meals.
Users on Findmeglutenfree.com report the Santa Margherita flatbread with tomatoes and basil was “Delicious.” The brunch menu also has a pair of gluten free alternatives in the breakfast plate with eggs, bacon and grits and the ham, egg and cheese biscuit.

Off the Hook Seafood and Cajun Grille
No one in the Deep South should be deprived of fried seafood simply on account of a dietary restriction. That’s where Off the Hook in Pascagoula steps in.
Gluten-free is the specialty here. All fried food in the building is gluten-free, ensuring safety and a stress-free order. If it comes from the water, you can get it fried and gluten-free here: shrimp, catfish, flounder, mahi, trigger and more.
