New restaurant is coming to South Mississippi beach site where Cajun’s once operated

A prime spot on U.S. 90 with great views of the beach, just an empty lot for years, soon will be home to a new burger restaurant.

A banner marks the spot at the southernmost spot in Edgewater Village, where Cajun’s chicken once stood and where Smalls Sliders restaurant soon will be built.

Biloxi already issued the building permit for the trademark orange and black color scheme restaurant and it won’t take long to construct. Smalls Sliders are housed in converted shipping containers that are dropped at the site for the epitome of fast food.

The container’s finished with a drive-up window and an outdoor seating area for those who want to have their burger, fries and shake with a view and a breeze off the water.

“Slide thru our drive thru or camp out at our Can,” is how their website describes the choices.

‘Smauce’ is for topping and dippin’

The menu’s also compact, with the focus on quality ingredients and their own sauce and seasonings.

The signature cheeseburger is made to order and comes with a pickle and their “Smauce” on a toasted butter bun.

Sliders are customizable for those who want to order double meat, double cheese or have their burger topped with two strips of bacon.

Grilled cheese also is on the menu, along with waffle fries that can be upgraded and covered in their special sauce and queso.

Milkshakes come in vanilla, chocolate and cookies and cream.

Drew Brees is a Smalls Sliders fan

This is the first Smalls Sliders on the Mississippi Coast. One of the restaurants already is open in Flowood and another is on the way to Jackson. Other restaurants in the chain are in Louisiana, Florida, Arkansas and Alabama.

The first restaurant in the franchise was built in 2019 in Baton Rouge by Brandon Landry, the owner of Walk-On’s Sports Bistreaux, which has a location in D’Iberville.

Just as he did when he worked with Landry to open Walk-On’s, former New Orleans Saints quarterback Drew Brees also became an investor in Smalls Sliders, opening a restaurant a year ago in in Metairie.

Matt Gallagher is the franchise of the Biloxi location and also is opening Smalls Sliders in Pensacola, Florida.
