Three South MS kitchens fail health inspections, one for fifth time in three years
Three restaurants in South Mississippi failed their health inspection so far this year.
The majority of South Mississippi kitchens inspected by Mississippi Health Department since Jan. 1 had no violations. The report shows 95 scored an A with no violations and 10 a B, when all issues were corrected during the site visit.
These three were given a C for critical violations:
Sai Chevron at 8413 Woolmarket Road, Biloxi, was inspected Jan. 7 for a permit renewal.
It was cited for:
▪ Inadequate hand washing facilities not supplied and accessible, a repeat violation
A follow-up inspection on Jan. 16 showed the violation was corrected and the kitchen received a B grade.
This is the fifth C since 2022, all for the same violation in addition to other issues, and the eighth C dating back to 2014.
Woody’s Roadside, 1894 Beach Blvd., Biloxi was inspected Jan. 15 for a permit renewal.
It was cited for:
▪ Food contact surface not cleaned and sanitized, a repeat violation
Corrected during the inspection were:
▪ Adequate hand washing facilities supplied and accessible
▪ Food separated and protected
▪ Hot and cold water available at adequate pressure
This was the second C dating back to 2017, with the prior one in 2018.
McAlister’s Deli, 110 East Frontage Road, Lucedale, was inspected Jan. 7 for a permit renewal.
It was cited for:
▪ Improper eating, tasting, drinking or tobacco use, a repeat violation
Corrected during the inspection were:
▪ Hands clean and properly washed
▪ Adequate hand washing facilities supplied and accessible
▪ Last inspection grade and results posted
The restaurant was reinspected on Jan. 16 and scored a B with no violations.
This was the first C dating back to 2020.
Restaurants and kitchens in Mississippi are rated “A” if they pass the health department inspection, “B” if all violations are corrected during the inspection and “C” if the violations are critical.
The health inspection grade must be displayed in all restaurants, in kitchens such as school cafeterias, day care centers and cafes and bars where food is prepared and sold.
