His famous sushi is back as chef changes the name of his new South MS restaurant
Cheff Scott is again serving sushi, this time at his new restaurant in Ocean Springs.
Scott Khong, who worked at South Beach in Miami before moving to South Mississippi, closed his new restaurant for a couple of weeks to build his own sushi bar.
On Tuesday, he reopened Chef Scott’s Asian Cuisine Sushi & Hibachi with his full Sushi bar menu and bento boxes.
Khong has a loyal following of customers who saw him close his restaurant in Ocean Springs in 2021 to care for his son, who had leukemia. When his son recovered his health, Scott opened a small sushi restaurant on Thorn Avenue in 2023.
Then the opportunity came to move to the former Ichiban restaurant, which was more spacious and right on the highway near the Biloxi Bay Bridge at 803 Bienville Blvd.
He and his business partner opened Hurley’s Hibachi restaurant in November, with the plan to bring back sushi once a new bar was built. The partnership didn’t work out, and Chef Scott changed the restaurant name, built the bar and began preparing his sushi.
“Kick Ass roll” will be back, he posted on his Facebook page, and told his followers he reopened with a full sushi menu and bento box. He’s also known for his Speak to the Dragon specialty roll with shrimp and spicy sriracha.
The sushi and hibachi restaurant has three dining rooms, with about 40 seats around the hibachi tables. The main dining room that seats about 50 more and the third dining room has the sushi bar and more tables.
The restaurant is open from 11 a.m.-8:30 p.m. Tuesday through Sunday for lunch and dinner.
