4 South MS restaurants cited for health violations, one for third time since 2022

Restaurants in South Mississippi are again cited by the state health department for not having certified managers to oversee food safety and for not maintaining cold temperatures for the products they serve.

The vast majority of South Mississippi kitchens inspected by Mississippi Health Department since Oct. 23 had no violations. The report shows 172 scored an A with no violations and 18 a B, when all issues were corrected during the site visit.

These four were given a C for critical violations:

Big Daddy’s Soul Food to Go, 2605 25th Ave., Gulfport, was inspected Oct. 23 for a permit renewal. It was cited for:

Food not separated and protected

Food contact surface not cleaned and sanitized

Improper cold holding temperatures

A follow-up inspection on Nov. 4 showed the violations were corrected and the restaurant scored a B.

This was the second C this year and the third since 2022.

Subway, 1670 Pass Road, Biloxi, had a scheduled inspection Oct. 24. It was cited for:

No certified manager

This was the only C dating back to 2010.

Coffee Y’All Espresso, 11293 Dye Road, Gulfport, was inspected Nov. 12 for a permit renewal. It was cited for:

No certified manage

Last inspection report not posted

Corrected during the inspection were:

Person in charge present who demonstrates knowledge and performs duty

Food contact surface cleaned and sanitized

All other inspections dating back to 2022 resulted in an A.

Joe Graham Post 119 — The American Legion, 1320 Ashley Dr. North, Gulfport, was inspected Nov. 12 for a permit renewal.

It was cited for:

Inadequate hand washing facilities supplied and accessible

Improper cold holding temperatures, a repeat violation

Last inspection report not posted

This is the first C dating back to 2015.

Restaurants and kitchens in Mississippi are rated “A” if they pass the health department inspection, “B” if all violations are corrected during the inspection and “C” if the violations are critical.

The health inspection grade must be displayed in all restaurants, in kitchens such as school cafeterias, day care centers and cafes and bars where food is sold.
