6 South MS restaurants fail their health inspections, with one being a four-time offender

Restaurants across South Mississippi continue to be cited in April for having no certified manager on staff, for unclean surfaces and other violations.

Six restaurants failed their health inspection this month with a C.

Restaurants and other food service establishments in Mississippi are rated “A” if they pass the health department inspection, “B” if all violations are corrected during the inspection and “C” if the violations are critical.

These restaurants and kitchens were cited:

Subway, 11240 U.S. 49, Gulfport, had a scheduled inspection April 1. It was cited for:

No certified manager, a repeat offense

Food contact surface not cleaned and sanitized (repeat)

Corrected during the inspection were:

Adequate hand washing facilities supplied and accessible

Proper cold holding temperatures

Proper eating, tasting, drinking or tobacco use

This is the fourth C since 2911, all coming within the last three years.

Mr Chuy, 1871 Pass Road, Biloxi, had a scheduled inspection April 2. It was cited for:

Hot and cold water not available at adequate pressure

Sewage wastewater properly disposed

Corrected during the inspection were:

Proper date marking and disposition

Adequate hand washing facilities supplied and accessible

This was the second time the restaurant was inspected since it opened. In October 2023 the restaurant scored an A.

Clark’s, 856 Beach Blvd., Biloxi, was inspected April 5 for a permit renewal. It was cited for:

No certified manager

Inadequate hand washing facilities supplied and accessible

Corrected during the inspection was:

Toxic substance properly identified, stored and used

This was the third C dating back to 2008.

Boomtown Casino Service Bar at 676 Bayview Ave. in Biloxi was inspected April 5 for a permit renewal. It was cited for: Food contact surface not cleaned and sanitized (repeat). This is the first C dating back to 2015.

Empanola Biloxi on Howard Avenue, 1036 Howard Ave., Biloxi, had a scheduled inspection April 5. It was cited for: Inadequate hand washing facilities supplied and accessible. This was the second time the restaurant was inspected. In May 2023 it scored an A.

Dodge’s Store, 824 U.S. 90. Gautier, was inspected April 3 for a permit renewal. It was cited for: no certified manager. Corrected during the inspection was: Adequate hand washing facilities supplied and accessible. This is the second C dating back to 2011.

Most restaurants, school kitchens and food trucks inspected since April 1 in South Mississippi had no violations, with 59 kitchens scoring an A and 12 a B.
