4 South MS kitchens fail inspection; 1 cited for presence of bugs, rodents or animals

Four South Mississippi restaurants scored a C on their restaurant inspection in the last three weeks, one for the condition of food and another for having bugs, rodents or animals present.

Restaurants and other food service establishments in Mississippi are rated “A” if they pass the health department inspection, “B” if all violations are corrected during the inspection and “C” if the violations are critical.

Those restaurants given a C are:

The Menagerie on Market, 2302 Market St., Pascagoula, was inspected March 1 for a permit renewal. It was cited for:

Food not in good condition, safe and unadulterated

Food not separated and protected

Food contact surface not cleaned and sanitized

This was the first C dating back to 2017. Every other inspection was an A.

Sea Level at 3 South Hiern Ave., Pass Christian, had a scheduled inspection March 13. It was cited for:

Insects, rodents or animals present

Corrected during the inspection was:

Food contact surface cleaned and sanitized

The restaurant changed owners last year. This was the second inspection for the restaurant, which got an A on the first inspection in August 2023.

Big P Food Mart, 19191 Commission Road, Long Beach, had a scheduled inspection March 11. It was cited for:

No certified manager, a repeat offense

No person in charge present who demonstrates knowledge and performs duty

This is the second C since 2021.

Subway at 790 Memorial Blvd., Picayune, was inspected Feb. 27 for a permit renewal. It was cited for no certified manager.

The restaurant has had only two Cs since 2011 but this is the second time in two years for same offense.
