South MS restaurant, sweet shop cited for bugs, rodents or animals in health inspection
Two of the five kitchens in South Mississippi cited by the Mississippi Department of Health failed their restaurant inspection this month with bugs, rodents or animals present.
The health department doesn’t specify which of those conditions was present when posting the grade.
These are the restaurants in District 9, which covers the Coast and the next tier counties, that scored a C since Jan. 31:
Adventures Pub & Spirits, 132 Lameuse St., Biloxi had inspections of the bar and kitchen Feb. 8 for permit renewals. The facilities are in the same building in downtown.
The bar was cited for:
▪ Insects, rodents or animals present
Corrected during the inspection was:
▪ Adequate hand washing facilities supplied and accessible
This was the first C for the bar dating back to 2015.
Adventures Pub kitchen was cited for:
▪ Required records not available for shell stock tags parasite destruction
Corrected during the inspection were:
▪ Food separated and protected
▪ Proper reheating procedure for hot holding
▪ Proper cooling time and temperatures
▪ Proper date marking and disposition
This is the eighth C for the kitchen since 2015.
The Pecan House, 441 U.S. 49, McHenry, was inspected Feb. 10 for a permit renewal. It was cited for:
▪ Inadequate hand washing facilities supplied and accessible
▪ Insects, rodents or animals present
Every other inspection dating back to 2007 was an A.
Raj J-Mart, 5100 Mississippi 67, Biloxi, had a scheduled inspection Jan. 31 and was cited for:
▪ Improper date marking and disposition, a repeat offense
Corrected during the inspection was:
▪ Proper eating, tasting, drinking or tobacco use
A corrective follow-up inspection on Feb. 2 showed all violations were corrected and the kitchen scored a B.
Arby’s, 1180 West Frontage Dr., Wiggins, had a scheduled inspection Feb. 10. It was cited for:
▪ No certified manager
Corrected during the inspection was:
▪ Food contact surface cleaned and sanitized
The restaurant had As in two prior inspections in 2023.
Restaurants and other food service establishments in Mississippi are rated “A” if they pass the health department inspection, “B” if all violations are corrected during the inspection and “C” if the violations are critical.
Most restaurants, school kitchens and food trucks inspected since Jan. 31 in South Mississippi had no violations, with 106 kitchens scoring an A and 17 a B.
Since Jan. 1, there have been 18 restaurants in South Mississippi that scored a C and had to post the grade in public view.
