Schools are back in session around the Mississippi Coast, which means it’s finally safe to sneak into your favorite ice cream shops.

As we continue to wade through perpetual heat waves and warnings, it’s important to know where your local sweet-treat cooldown locations are.

We’ll list some of the more popular ice cream parlor’s on the Coast here, from Pascagoula to Bay St. Louis.

It’s impossible to list them all, so let us know where your favorite ice cream shop is, as well!

Kilwins

Ocean Springs welcomed the nationally popular ice cream shop in the heart of town near Government Street and Washington Avenue just this year.

Boasting a couple dozen ice cream flavors and infinite free samples, Kilwins is bound to have exactly what you’re looking for. I’ve already had the espresso, peach and s’mores flavors myself.

Bop’s Frozen Custard

Bop’s is a popular Mississippi-based ice cream store that leans on the old-fashioned aesthetic and tastes of frozen custard.

They offer a wide range of sundae’s, shakes and traditional ice cream. Some of the specialty items include a banana, pineapple and coconut-filled Margaritaville sundae and a dish known as the concrete with cheesecake and black raspberries.

Heladeria La Frescura

The recently-opened Mexican dessert stop will wow you with treats you may not have known even existed. The store sells ice cream in both traditional and exotic flavors, as well as many different aguas frescas.

Crepes, mini pancakes and caramel-infused churros are just some of the many snack options Heladeria La Frescura offers, as well.

Creole Creamery

You don’t have to travel far to get a taste of some of New Orleans’ best ice cream. The Creole Creamery in Bay St. Louis, offers ice cream by the scoop, in a milkshake and even as a soda.

They also sell cakes, offer catering services and sell certain products in bulk. If you’re looking for something unique, the ice cream-and-coffee treats are a must-try.

Quake’s Ice Creamery

Quake’s has been serving Ocean Springs for a long time and it’s easy to see why when you spot their menu. With ice cream-topped brownies, peanut butter layered “Quakes” and traditional scoops, there’s something here for everybody.

The quake is the popular item here. They are layered or mixed cups of ice cream that can be custom made or come in one of the premade specialties. They are also now serving some of their famous quakes at Fayard’s on Popps Ferry in Biloxi.
