A popular MS Coast breakfast spot closes for good. Here’s the new plan for the building.
Fill-up With Billups restaurant, known for its early morning breakfasts and cinnamon roll waffle, is closed in Pass Christian.
The closing was announced Sunday on Facebook and the post says “We look forward to exciting things to come for this location.”
Closing Billups was part of the plan since the day the popular restaurant opened, said owner Jourdan Nicaud, since the building’s air conditioning unit and other infrastructure isn’t compatible with what’s coming next.
“We’re starting on the new hotel next door to that property,” he said.
The existing Hotel Pass Christian remains open while it’s greatly enlarged and transformed into the new Pass Bungalows in about a dozen buildings.
The Bungalows will be built on a raised slab and have 48 units, Nicaud said.
The Billups site will be incorporated into the new resort and become a kids’ space with an arcade, food and fun.
The restaurant opened three years ago as a tribute to Fill-up with Billups gas stations that were popular in South Mississippi in the 1950s and ‘60s.
A second Fill-up with Billups in Biloxi, across the street from Beau Rivage Resort and Casino along with MGM park, also is closed and will get a new concept, Nicaud said.
The Nicauds also operate many other restaurants on the Coast, such as Bacchus in Pass Christian and Ocean Springs, The Dock in Pass Christian, Fields Steak & Oyster Bar in Bay St. Louis in Biloxi, Charred Steak & Oyster Bar plus Rooftop Taco & Tequila Bar in Ocean Springs. The family has branched out to retail with the opening of Mississippi Antique Galleria in Gulfport and 902 Howard Avenue apartments in downtown Biloxi.
The first phase of the $14.6 million Ice and Freezer House mixed use project in Pascagoula is open with all apartments and a butcher shop occupied, and Phase II is awaiting approvals, he said.
