Ocean Springs restaurant’s new second floor patio is a perfect spot for Sunday Funday
There’s a new spot for Sunday Funday that overlooks Government Street — and it’s sure to be one of the busiest patios on the Coast this spring and summer.
Murky Waters BBQ has been a staple for barbecue in South Mississippi since opening a single restaurant in downtown Gulfport. They’ve since expanded to Ocean Springs and Bay St. Louis.
The restaurant was so popular on Government Street that the owners had to expand. They built a new spot just down the street from their original Ocean Springs location that opened last month.
The downstairs has a huge dining area that serves a full menu. Upstairs, the covered patio and bar serves a unique menu that includes pork belly sliders, loaded fries and nachos, a smash burger and those famous smoked and flash-fried Murky wings.
The patio upstairs has plenty of seating and is fully covered. There’s also a stage for live music on the weekend.
I recently had lunch with my friends, Jacob and DeRae Lee, upstairs. We started with the sausage and cheese platter, which is Murky’s take on a charcuterie board. The smoked sausage comes with fried onion tanglers and cubes of cheddar and pepper jack cheese. I like to eat it with their sweet barbecue sauce.
DeRae loved the pork belly sliders with pickled red onions, and the smash burger I ate was one of the best on the Coast. Jacob, a creature of habit, got a dozen wings and they were 10/10.
If you’re out and about in downtown Ocean Springs and want a casual but filling lunch or dinner with good drinks and a good view, Murky’s new location is the place for you.
