Health inspector finds animals, bugs or rodents at Coast restaurant after complaint

Four South Mississippi restaurants were cited for health violations since early March, one of them for having animals, bugs or rodents present.

Subway at 1001 Broad Ave., Gulfport was inspected March 20 following a complaint and failed for the third time in less than six months. The restaurant was cited for:

  • No certified manager, a repeat offense
  • Insects, rodents or animals present, a repeat offense
  • Inadequate hand washing facilities supplied and accessible, a repeat offense

  • Sewage wastewater not properly disposed, a repeat offense
  • Plumbing not installed with proper backflow devices

This is the fifth C at the restaurant dating back to 2009.

Rock N Roll Sushi, 3920 Promenade Parkway, D’Iberville, was inspected March 13 for a permit renewal. It was cited for:

  • No person in charge present who demonstrates knowledge and performs duty
  • Inadequate hand washing facilities supplied and accessible, a repeat offense
  • Toxic substance improperly identified, stored or used, a repeat offense

Corrected during the inspection were:

  • Food separated and protected
  • Proper date marking and disposition

This is the second C dating back to 2019.

Wendy’s at 12102 U.S. 49 in Gulfport was inspected March 20 for a permit renewal. It was cited for:

  • Food contact surface not cleaned and sanitized, a repeat offense
  • Inadequate hand washing facilities supplied and accessible, a repeat offense

Corrected during the inspection was food separated and protected.

This is the first C dating back to 2017.

Clark’s Subway, 6627 MS 63, Moss Point, was inspected March 13 for a permit renewal and was cited for not having a certified manager. This was the third C since 2011.

Restaurants and other food service establishments in Mississippi are rated “A” if they pass the health department inspection, “B” if violations are corrected during the inspection, and “C” if the violations are critical.

Since March 4 there have been 235 restaurants in South Mississippi that scored an A for no violations and 21 that got a B when violations were corrected during the inspection.
