A new MS Coast restaurant serves you from a train caboose. Here’s what I tried.
On a corner not far from Jeff Davis Avenue in Long Beach sits an antique train caboose. The caboose is home to one of Long Beach’s newest restaurants – The Juicy Caboosy, a fitting name for the juice, nosh and booze they serve.
An ideal spot for a sunny day, the Juicy Caboosy is built around the vintage caboose which serves as a focal point of the restaurant and the counter where customers can order their food. It’s surrounded by a large deck that envelops the space and serves as a dining area with a view overlooking a green space that has lawn games and another dining area.
The restaurant also features a separate covered dining area perfect for when it rains, as the whole restaurant is open air including where you order your food.
The menu consists of interesting juices, craft cocktails, sandwiches and shareable snacks like charcuterie and bruschetta.
I ordered the apple cider and the Just The Ticket sandwich, which consists of ham, cheddar, romaine, Zapps chips for some crunch and choo choo sauce, which is essentially a spicy mayo.
When ordering a sandwich, they provide different options for bread including country white, rosemary ciabatta, nine grain and a gluten free option. I went with the country white bread for my sandwich and it did not disappoint — definitely not your average white bread.
As I ate, customers were playing corn-hole on the lawn of the restaurant and a large group of friends ate lunch together under a large sign that said “be sweet, stay juicy.” With a warm atmosphere, unique menu, and casual dining area Juicy Caboosy could be an ideal neighborhood hang out space for Long Beach.
