Five MS Coast restaurants cited during health department inspections, 3 for no manager

Restaurants in South Mississippi continue to be cited by the health department for not having a certified manager on staff and for hand washing facilities that don’t meet the inspectors’ approval.

Subway at 1101 Broad Ave., Gulfport, had a scheduled inspection Jan. 30. It was cited with three violations:

  • No certified manager
  • Inadequate hand washing facilities supplied and accessible
  • Food contact surface not cleaned and sanitized

Corrected during the inspection was sewage waste water properly disposed.

A follow-up inspection the following day showed all violations were corrected and the restaurant was given a B.

This is the fourth C since 2009.

Sonic Drive-In at 4725 Main St., Moss Point, had a scheduled inspection Jan. 24. It was cited for not having a certified manager. This is the first C shown dating back to 2010.

The Blind Tiger, 265 Beach Blvd., Biloxi was inspected Feb. 1. It was cited for inadequate hand washing facilities supplied and accessible.

Corrected during the inspection were improper eating, tasting, drinking or tobacco use; food separated and protected, and proper date marking and disposition

The restaurant was reinspected Feb. 7 and got a B when all violations were corrected.

This is the second C dating back to 2017.

Yamato Steak House, 12131 Old Highway 63 South, Lucedale, had a scheduled inspection Jan. 9. The restaurant was cited for:

  • No certified manager
  • Food not separated and protected, a repeat offense
  • Hot and cold water not available with adequate pressure

Corrected during the inspection was proper eating, tasting, drinking or tobacco use.

All violations were corrected during a follow-up inspection Jan. 19.

This was the second C since 2019.

Basin Shop Rite, 2246 River Road, Lucedale, had a scheduled inspection Jan. 17. It was cited for inadequate hand washing facilities supplied and accessible.

Corrected during the inspection were hands clean and properly washed, and proper eating, tasting, drinking or tobacco use.

A follow-up inspection two days later on Jan. 19 showed all violations were corrected.

Restaurants and other food service establishments in Mississippi are rated “A” if they pass the health department inspection, “B” if violations are corrected during the inspection, and “C” if the violations are critical.

Since Jan. 6 there have been 295 restaurants in South Mississippi that scored an A for no violations and 48 that got a B when violations were corrected during the inspection.
