Biloxi restaurant’s king cake biscuit is the perfect breakfast for Mardi Gras season
King cake for breakfast is a Mardi Gras tradition on the Mississippi Gulf Coast, am I right?
There’s nothing like opening a box of sweet, delicious, purple-green-gold goodness and slicing a piece off to dip in your morning coffee. It’s even better if you heat it up for 15 seconds.
And at the Greenhouse Biloxi, a beloved breakfast and lunch restaurant in downtown, there’s a new biscuit on the menu that is perfect for Mardi Gras.
The king cake biscuit is topped with purple, green and gold sugar and sweet, white fluff is stuffed inside. I visit the Greenhouse pretty often and tried their special for the first time this week.
I am a huge fan of mixing sweet and savory, so their buttery biscuit paired well with the sweet notes of the fluff and sugar. The cinnamon flavor was prominent, but not overpowering.
If you try the king cake biscuit this month, you can pair with the Greenhouse’s savory biscuit option to make it a plate and save a little money. The savory selection changes daily and you can check out the menu on their Facebook page.
My favorite thing about the Greenhouse is their friendly staff who always goes above and beyond to help every guest that walks through the door. As I ate my biscuit, I watched as one worker helped a couple from out of town choose breakfast before they headed to see their son in Pensacola.
One of the owners came from the back and greeted guests, something I’ve seen her do multiple times.
The cool space is also covered in poetry and local art, and you can buy some pieces off the wall if you feel inspired. The featured artist this month is ceramist Ellen Ellis Lee.
