One of my favorite things about working in downtown Biloxi is the walk to breakfast at Greenhouse Biloxi.
The pink building has a sign in the window that says “everyone,” letting guests know immediately that they are welcome. It’s the first thing I noticed the first time I decided to dine there a few months back.
The coffee shop and biscuit restaurant feels like a Disney fairy tale that could be set in New Orleans. The exposed brick, tall ceilings and poetry on the walls makes the Greenhouse feel like it’s a best-kept secret for locals in the Big Easy.
Sorry, NOLA, because Biloxi is keeping this one to ourselves.
There was a considerable line for the hour I was at Greenhouse on Thursday, and the staff knew almost every person who walked in the door by name. The coffee selection is simple, and the stars are of the show are the specialty biscuits.
There’s a sweet and savory option every day, and you can try both with a side of fruit or Zapps Voodoo chips for under $9. I ordered the sweet — a molasses ginger biscuit stuffed with sweet fluff and roasted cinnamon apples — and the savory — a parmesean pumpkin biscuit stuffed with regular fluff and roasted kale.
I chose fruit for my side and loved that the Greenhouse served my meal on a real plate and silverware. The business is also environmentally conscious. Their to-go boxes and cups are compostable.

The sweet biscuit tasted like apple pie, but better. The tart green apples were a perfect compliment to the light fluff and molasses in the biscuit. The savory biscuit was my favorite -- the cheesy pumpkin flavor wasn’t overshadowed by the kale, which was the perfect consistency. It almost felt like a new-age take on green bean casserole at Thanksgiving, and I loved it.
Greenhouse Biloxi also sells regular and sweet potato biscuits, pastries and baked items, sandwiches, salads, breakfast plates and more. The menu is large and there’s something for everyone, even the pickiest eaters.
The Greenhouse also serves as a bodega of sorts for downtown Biloxi. If coffee or tea isn’t your thing, they also have a variety of sodas, sparkling water and fresh juice you can take with you back home or to the office.
Don’t forget to check out the art along the wall — local artists sell their creations and there are several featured in the holiday gallery.
